Polestar introduces Plug & Charge for Polestar 3 customers

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 25 September 2024. Polestar has introduced the convenience of Plug & Charge to its new flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, and its Polestar Charge App, making public charging for its customers even easier than before.

Acting like a digital wallet, the car securely authenticates the user and communicates directly with compatible public chargers, allowing for automatic processing and removing the typical steps of setting up a charging session. After arriving at the desired location customers can simply plug in their Polestar 3 to the charging station and enjoy a seamless charging process. Plug & Charge is available at over 9,500 HPC charging points including selected Ionity and Mer charging points.

Lutz Stiegler, CTO of Polestar, says “With Plug & Charge we offer a premium service to Polestar 3 customers that makes charging their car on the road as easy and hassle-free as possible. This advanced technology will make a real difference to customers’ day to day life, and we’re excited to bring it to Polestar 3 first with other models in our range to follow soon after.”

This new functionality means Polestar 3 drivers no longer need to select the correct charging location, confirm which individual charger they are connected to then initiate payment to authenticate the charging session via Polestar Charge App or with the Polestar Charge card. When Plug & Charge is activated, the car communicates directly with the charger itself and payment is processed directly – removing multiple steps from the traditional process.*

Polestar 3 drivers should activate the function in the vehicle’s charging settings and then connect it to Polestar Charge App (or any other E-mobility Service Provider). The Polestar Charge app offers access to over 800,000 public charging points across Europe as well as subscription based fast charging with discounted rates at thousands of public charging locations, ensuring not only is Plug & Charge more convenient for customers, but better value too.

Available in Polestar 3 now, with other Polestar models gaining the functionality in 2025. For more information on Polestar Plug & Charge please visit https://www.polestar.com/charging/route-planning/#plug-and-charge

Ends.

Notes to editors

*At available Plug & Charge compatible public charging stations, At non compatible Plug & Charge public charging stations, Polestar 3 drivers can of course still rely and use Polestar Charge App and/or Polestar Charge card to initiate their public charging session.
