Polestar 4 achieves 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating

  • Polestar 4 awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating with an overall 86% safety rating.
  • Adult occupant protection rating was 92%, a top scorer in the current round of testing protocols.
  • Child occupant protection was rated 85%, vulnerable road users 81% and safety assist systems 79%.
  • Full Polestar lineup awarded top rating by independent body.

GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 09 July 2025. The Polestar 4 has become the third car in the Swedish performance electric brand’s current lineup to achieve a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Euro NCAP’s series of vehicle tests coversAdult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist, and like the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 that came before it, Polestar 4 has achieved five stars for all categories and an 86% overall score.

The European New Car Assessment Program has been certifying vehicle safety test results since 1997 and only awards five stars – the highest accolade possible – to cars that demonstrate an overall excellent performance in crash protection and are well equipped with state-of-the-art crash avoidance technology.

Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO says “As the most recent car in our current lineup to achieve this top award, the Polestar 4 continues to demonstrate our commitment to make amongst the safest performance cars you can buy. And for our customers, they can enjoy the peace of mind that no matter which Polestar they choose it’s one of the safest cars, not just EVs, on the market.

As the third car in the current Polestar range to achieve the top rating, the Polestar 4 completes the lineup to offer consumers a choice of 5-star Euro NCAP electric vehicles from the Swedish electric performance brand. Polestar 2 was awarded a 5-star rating in 2021, and earlier this year, Polestar 3 set new standards for child safety with a 93% score in its 5-star rating.

The Polestar 4 has seven airbags, including inner side airbags to reduce injury between occupants in the event of an unavoidable incident, and an advanced E-call system that will automatically call emergency services for help after a severe accident. Helping to avoid such situations in the first place is the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with 11 exterior cameras, one interior Driver Monitoring System camera, one mid-range radar and 12 ultrasonic sensors to monitor surroundings and issue warnings or intervene if necessary. And a roof-mounted rear-view camera replaces the rear window, providing a wider field of view, improved low light visibility and unobstructed rearward vision even when the car is fully loaded with occupants or luggage.

The Polestar 4 scored maximum points for the side barrier and side pole impact tests, resulting in a 92% rating for adult occupant protection and making it one of the highest-rated cars in Euro NCAP’s most recent testing protocols. Protection of child occupants was rated at 85% and Euro NCAP commended the performance of Polestar 4 in both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, where it scored maximum points. The Polestar 4 continued to impress with a score of 81% for vulnerable road users and 79% for safety assist systems, contributing to the car’s 86% and 5-star overall rating.
